Frostmetalstorm Online Magazin, Russia – Ole/Hagal (English)
Tell some words about new album. Where and when it was recorded, e.t.c.
It was recorded in 1999 and published in 2000. We`ve recorded it by ourselves.
Please, tell us your short biography.
Hagal was founded in 1998. 2000 we published „Karg“, our debut. Hopefully we will release our new full-length output this year. Between that we`ve played live a lot here in Germany and promoted „Karg“. So we`ve received letters from all Europe, Asia, America etc. The fans should know us by now.
How about your lyrics? What they tell us about?
The lyrics deal with northern mythology and the world of ghosts. They`re all in german, except „A tale of frost and ravens wisdom“, the only english-written song. They describe the power of nature and the weakness of mankind.
How can you describe your own style?
I would describe it as pure northern Black Metal in the style of old Helheim and Enslaved. A little bit of Viking Metal perhaps.
Members of the band?
A.F., shouter, Dirk, guitarist and me, Ole, wooden fortress.
Which bands influenced on you very much?
As I mentioned before: The northern-style bands like Enslaved, Helheim and Satyricon. You can find much of them in our music, although we definitly don`t play the same style.
Who is the author of the CD s artwork? Tell us some words about it.
It`s my brother Tim, who is a graphic designer. It`s in full-colour with all lyrics and stuff, quite professional for a non-signed band, most people say. It underlines our music with wonderful pictures of frostbitten landscapes, wolfes etc.
Do you like your record-label?
We`re not signed. But I think this will change soon!
Which bands do you mark on German and European scene?
Nagelfar and Nargaroth from Germany...and Drautran of course. From Europe I would mark all the old norwegian bands like Darkthrone or Burzum and the scene in Poland.
What s your hobby except music (books, movies e.t.c.)
I read a lot of fantasy books. And when I do not read, I eat a hole cow at once...
Do you know any metal bands from Russia?
...mmh, Nokturnal Mortum are very well-known here in Germany (but I think they`re not from Russia but one of the ex-states, I don`t remember the name.)
Your imagination of Russia?
A huge country with wonderful landscapes and a proud history ( at least the history before communism, I hate totalitarian states). I`m sure I will travel to Russia one day, it`s an interesting country.
Your last words and greetings for fans?
Fuck the world-Hail Black Metal!!!
